Filipino Immigrant Workers abused in Manitoba

Last week a  CBC investigation revealed the exploitation of four Filipino immigrants.

The workers claimed that they had to pay thousands of dollars to a recruiting agency to get the job placements. They began work at a Regina Wendy’s, but were soon moved to a Brandon location.

The promise of health care coverage and airfare reimbursement as part of their employment offer had not been fulfilled. One of the workers was allegedly fired for missing a shift when he had to visit the hospital. They say they were abused and threatened with deportation.
