The tour is sponsored nationally by the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC), Council of Canadians, Council on American-Islamic Relations-Canada (CAIRCAN), International Civil Liberties Monitoring Group (ICLMG), and the National Campus and Community Radio Association (NCRA).
“Abousfian Abdelrazik is a Sudanese-born Canadian dual citizen who was initially accused of having ties to al-Qaeda, but was subsequently cleared in multiple investigations by the Sudanese government, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Nevertheless, for a prolonged period he was not able to return to Canada, since he remained (and still remains) on the United Nations terrorist no-fly list. There is evidence that he was abused by his interrogators in the Sudan. His case is a possible violation of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Amnesty International, members of Parliament, and editorialists of the Canadian press kept his case in the spotlight. Canada refused to grant him travel papers and otherwise blocked his return to his home in Montreal, even after he managed to find an airline willing to transport himregardless of his listing on the US no-fly list, and despite the factthat the UN blacklist explicitly allows for return to a country of citizenship.”
